Hanging in Stanford

Today I spent the day in Stanford. Ryan went to his lab early and I had the day to myself. I talked on the phone, ate lunch, listened to the rain and watched some shows. Of course I ended up watching The Biggest Loser trying to get inspired to go out and do something with my day. And what do you know the rain stopped and I could see blue sky so I got ready to run.

I ran by so many people and every time I held back from sticking out my hand and shouting high five for us not sitting on the couch and doing nothing today. I smiled at everyone I ran past and most of them either didn't look or just looked at me and kept running.

I ran on this little trail that had a little creek flowing down next to it, and I came across this little man made waterfall. It was soo pretty!

While I was running I got a call from Ry who had called it a day early from his lab to spend time with me. I was so excited and couldn't run fast enough to get back.

All in all, it was a great day and it felt good to do something for myself... For me, I like to make the effort to take the stairs instead of the elevator... :)

My two cents for the day: What is something little that you can do for yourself, that makes you feel good and proud?

First Day at SETA Head Start

Today I started my first day volunteering at SETA Head Start. I got placed in a preschool room with 3-5 year olds. They welcomed me with open arms, smiles and snot. Although I had to be there by nine, which is early for me, I really enjoyed my day. It started with some playing with Legos and making tunnels for the boys to drive their cars through, to circle time, to cutting out stars for them to glue on to their universe art project...(side note... kids with glue...need I say more) Then we got to go outside and play... it all came rushing back, memories of freeze tag, pretending like the play structure was our safety from the hot lava, one boy wanted me to be a snake that could shoot fire and he was wind that made huge tornados. After a crazy recess of running, kids slipping in the rain, and wet sand, it was really fun/messy.
All the kids came back in a laid down to rest for a few minutes from recess. I laid down on the circle rug to keep them company and get some rest myself and in 2.2 seconds I had five kids touching me and two others just staring. Then it was free time and I was drawing with a few kids and making puzzles with another and what do you know this little boy B looked at my name tag and asked me to write my name in number in this little paper book he had colored earlier. I died laughing and in a weird way flattered. jk! I told him that I'd give him my name but that I didn't have a phone number. Oh my my my, five year olds asking for someones digits already. haha! Then we cleaned up for circle time which we read and acted out a story. I really think if my text books were all on CD read with the excitement like it was a children's book they might actually be interesting. Lunch and nap time followed, and my new little boyfriend B asked me to rub his back. They are all so cute and it is so peaceful to watch 15 little kids sleeping at once.
Think I found my love in life! Children are the BEST and I can't wait to see what next week brings. :)
